Little Tens Invitational
Last Saturday, the team had their second cross country meet of the season at MRun’s Little Tens Invitational. Despite the rain and mud, both the men’s and women’s teams absolutely cooked, with runner(s) from each side qualifying for the Joe Piane Invitational.
The women ran a 6k, and once again, their top runner was Meagan McKenna, who ran 22:50 for 4th place. Next was Emily Arenas in 24:45 for 20th, Audrey Filonczuk in 25:53 for 40th, and Katie Burke in 28:36 for 86th. Meagan McKenna qualified for Joe Piane.
Overall, the women’s team had an incredible performance, and though they didn’t have enough runners to score as a team, those that were there got moving, and it was a sight to see.
On the men’s side, if I said there were “no surprises”, I’d be lying. It’s no surprise that Winston Fairchild took down Tyler Gordon, or that Owen Donaher re-dethroned Ryan Fryer, but who would have thought we’d have 2 freshman qualify for Joe Piane this early?
Owen Donaher led the way in 26:31 for 12th place, closely followed by Ryan Fryer in 27:00 for 23rd, Ryan Illikman in 27:06 for 27th, Carlos Jison in 27:36 for 38th, Zach Wrobel in 27:38 for 40th (it may have taken him a while to get to the meet, but it didn’t take very long to get to the finish line). All 5 of these runners qualified for Joe Piane. A while later came Winston Fairchild in 29:20 for 82nd, Tyler Gordon in 29:21 for 83rd, James Zola in 32:29 for 134th, Andrew Jitendran in 32:55 for 141st, Jonathan Karr in 34:06 for 150th, and Kevin Taylor in 35:17 for 158th.
Overall, the men scored 5th out of 9 teams. After basking in the glory of the glorious performance at Joe Piane (recap to come), we now look ahead to our very own Irish Invitational on Saturday, 10/5/24.
